Panel 07 - The spies return from Canaan carrying grapes on a staff (Num 13:23)
Description:
A standard 'type' of the crucified Christ. Numbers 13 tells how Moses sent scouts to the Promised Land to check its suitability - the men who visited Eschol returned with an abundance of good fruit, including a bunch of grape which they bore on a pole. The pole then becomes the cross and Christ is the grapes (a particularly neat exegetical reading given the supposed equivalance between his blood and the sacramental wine)
