Overview:
Like several of the bays at Poitiers, this window is rather confusing, with six panels missing and the rest badly jumbled up. Enough glass survived the depredations of Huguenot iconoclasts and clumsy restorers to allow us to identify some of the scenes with a degree of confidence - other panels are more speculative. What is clear though is that this was another splendid example of the Poitevin glaziers distinctive practice of splitting the action across adjoining panels. Spears protrude from one panel into the next (see for example panels 17 and 18), helping to evoke the chaos of battle and unifying the normally discrete spaces between the armature.
