Panel 06 - Demons strangling the Proconsul's wife and her lover in the bath
|
 |
Although this delightful episode doesn't appear in Voragine's complilation, Gregory of Tours
recounts at some length the story of Lesbius (a Proconsul), who was becoming one of Andrew's followers. His jealous and
unfaithful wife has Trophima, another faithful follower of Andrew's, condemned as a prostitute and sent to a brothel.
As punishment for this calumny, Lesbius' wife "...went to the bath with the steward [her lover], and as they bathed an
ugly demon came and killed them both"
