Given the poor state of preservation and the loss of its original content, this panel presents something of a
conundrum. The CVMA identifies it speculatively as Martin choosing St Brice as his successor but this clearly doesn't
fit. Instead we seem to have a ruler of some sort seated left of centre, who is being addressed (note her hand gestures)
by a queen or princess. The latter wears a crown and a long robe of vair (the standard medieval index of wealth and status) and
is accompanied by a female attendant of some sort. The head of the figure standing furthest left is a later, and rather
ill-fitting replacement. The surviving elements of this man's costume are not enough to be certain but this may well have
been St Martin.
