The vita tells how Maurille destroyed a pagan temple near Chalons, piling up its idols and burning them, while the demons inhabiting the place complained bitterly about his harsh treatment of them and their kind. Maurille chased them away and founded the monastery of St Pierre de Chalons on the site.
