Description: Here the upper and lower quatrefoils work together in a slightly unconventional narrative mode (as with 49a on the opposite side of the west facade), to show Amos witnessing the content of his prophecy, vis the Lord speaking. In keeping with the references to herdsmen, Amos is shown in shepher's garb. Amos 1: 1The words of Amos, who was among herdsmen of Thecua: which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Ozias king of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joas king of Israel two years before the earthquake. 2And he said: The Lord will roar from Sion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem: and the beautiful places of the shepherds have mourned, and the top of Carmel is withered. |
