Panel D5 - Eustace discovers his long lost wife
In most versions of the story, Eustace's wife (who survived her maritime ordeal unscathed and eventually settled down to run an inn) overhears the two young men discussing their past and later wonders if they might be her lost sons. She goes to ask the General's permission to search for them amidst his army - but husband and wife recognise each other and the family is reunited. In an interesting twist on the tale, the artist here has shown the wife going about her daily chores, beating her laundry with a wooden paddle.
