Panel 20 - The Seventh Plague; the skies rain fire and hail upon Egypt (Exod 9:23)
Description:
A somewhat fragmented panel with a particularly unusual image. The clue here is the hand holding a rod that stretches in from the left. All the plagues of Egypt start with God telling Moses to "stretch forth thy rod..." If this is indeed one of the ten plagues sent against Egypt then the most likely candidate is the seventh, the swirling red patterns being the artist's attempt to represent the tumult described in Exodus 9:23-24;

And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
