Panel 12 - A widow, Juliana seeks permission to return home with her husband's body

The narrative now switches to the very separate story of how Stephen's relics found their way back to Europe.

According to the Golden Legend a wealthy senator from Constantinople called Alexander moves to Jerusalem with his wife, Juliana, where he builds a church in honour of St Stephen and after his death is buries alongside the saint. Seven years later, his widow wants to return home to Constantinople and begs the Bishop of Jerusalem for permission to take her husband's body home with her. When he agrees to her request, she goes to retrieve the body - but accidentally takes the remains of Stephen instead of her husband...
