Panel 03 - Christ giving James his Mission to Galicia (?)

 © Stuart Whatling, 2009

James, seated on a rock beside some water, receives an object from Christ, who is accompanied by an angel (the yellow glass upper right are the latter's wings). The identity of the object Christ is giving the saint is far from clear but may well represent the pilgrim's staff that becomes his attribute. Either way, Christ appears to be blessing and/or instructing James so this may be an interpolated scene, similar to the one of Christ giving Thomas his mission to the Indies in bay 23 (the hand gestures are almost identical) in which Christ tells James to go and evangelise the Galicians.
