Panel 10 - Paul is beaten and imprisoned
Because this panel is out of context it is not possible to say which of the various scenes of Paul's imprisonment is represented. This is the standard visual topos of imprisonment - the saint is being beaten with a weapon and driven towards an open door. The special poignancy here of course, as the New Testament account reiterates several times, is that as a Roman citizen, Paul should have been legally protected from such degrading treatment.
