Panel 09 - Elijah meeeting the Widow of Sareptha
1 Kings 17 tells how, during a famine, Elijah meets a poor widow who has only a handful of flour and oil to feed herself and her son, and a couple of sticks for their cooking fire. Elijah promises that if she feeds him the Lord will provide for them. Sure enough her meagre provisions multiply and they are able to wait out the famine in some comfort. As in the same scene at Bourges, the artist here has shown the widow holding her two piece of wood in a cross shape, although the typological association with the carrying of the Cross which we find at Bourges is partly lost here because the scenes are not juxtaposed.
