Panel 02 - Moses and the brazen serpent
|
 |
Poor condition and difficult to photograph due to the strong incident light, nevertheless, one can clearly see Moses
standing on the left and gesturing towards the column at the centre, on top of which is mounted the brazen serpent
that would save the Israelites from their problems with snakebite. Two priests stand alongside, with their hands
raised in supplication. Although difficult to see in this image, the serpent is depicted in the manner of an
heraldic cockatrice, with the body and legs of a cockerel but a coiling serpentine tail. As with its neighbours,
this panel has been displaced from a lost window.
